In this arrangement the hollow fibre microfiltration units operate in water with a high solids concentration, to supply clear water to spiral wound RO membranes.
Clear water withdrawn from the membranes by the single screw pump is discharged at RO membrane operating pressure. The RO system works on a single stage by using a low pressure circulating pump to give sufficient flow rate through the RO unit.
